Journal
of the sixtysixth day on board
7th July, 1999
Angelo
Mojetta the famous marine biologist with
whom we shared many interesting experiences in Ionian Sea off
Capo Spartivento last May, is back on board. During those few
days we met dolphins, grampi, turtles and above all a calm sea.
Sometimes the water was so still it looked like glass.
Time 17,00
We are west of Lampione - a rock that rises from the centre
of the Mediterranean. You can only sea a lighthouse, some seagulls,
some sheerwaters and beautiful drinking water.
There is little wind and the sea anchor is not working well.
We often place ourselves on one side and take pleasure rocking
the boat (it's only a joke obviously!).
We hardly walk or sit up straight. We get tired of being quiet
then talking, counting then making phone calls. It's uncomfortable
to chum, to scan the horizon and look for a fin in the monitor
of the underwater camera.
Mountain peaks and edelweiss' come into mind and … every now
and then one of us in the expedition comes out with a “I've
had enough of the sea. Next time I'm going to the mountains
to look for woolly mammoths!"
