With our contacts on land, the sending of information from the
boat is made possible thanks to the following equipment:

2 laptop computers
1 Inmarsat mini-M satellite
1 Inmarsat M satellite
1 Inmarsat C satellite
1 Inmarsat B satellite
1 mobile video unit, latest hi-tech device from Telecom Italia
1 meteofax
1 VHF
1 SSB
2 GSM mobile phones
and finally .... the uvula of the equipment when we enter and
leave port.

The
digital camera allows us to capture life on-board and show you,
the reader what we're up to. We need the computer to use Internet,
read our e-mail, write the diary, send the digital photos and
faxes and to record the information transmitted by the satellites
(e.g.: the Inmarsat C).

The satellites
are, in effect, telephones we can use outside of the normal
zones covered by cellular phones. They operate thanks to satellites
in a geostationary orbit above the earth and are of the utmost
reliability.
