Journal
of the twentythird day on board
25th May, 1999
We
are above the 'Bank of 100 Onions'.
We can see Scilla to our left, the Straits of Messina ahead
and the Eolie in the background.
The pitching
of the Alicudi is strong notwithstanding the calm sea. Probably
the ships passing through the Strait leave a long but constant
wake.
Angelo Mojetta has come back
on board in the role of Lancelot. The long sword he is carrying
with him will not be used, however, to run through cavaliers,
but to reveal, with a small biopsy, some secrets about the shark.
The biopsy consists of taking a small piece of fat (smaller
than a grain of rice) from the dorsal fin of the shark. The
test on the piece of skin, for those continuing the research,
should reveal if the sharks of the Mediterranean have different
characteristics from their cousins in other seas.
