Journal
of the twentysecond day on board
24th May, 1999
We
have been sailing since yesterday afternoon. We left Taranto
for the Straits of Messina.
Time
: 12,45. Capo Spartivento can be seen on the horizon,
the extreme tip of Calabria, Just like the ubiquitous 'Sports
Bar', the Hotel Miramonti Capo Spartivento is not an original
name. There exists a Capo Spartivento in Puglia, one in Calabria,
one in Sardinia and who knows how many others all over Italy.
Time
: 17,53. A light north-westerly accompanies us until
we are inside the port of Reggio Calabria. The current in the
Strait is little more than 4 knots, but it is to stern and we
succumb to the exhilaration of speed, 11 knots 'downhill'!
