Journal
of the twentieth day on board
22nd
May, 1999
The
encounter with the 'verdesca' of the 17 May was in some part helped
and made possible by a warning we had had a few hours previously.
Shopping for chum (we are using tonnes of it although no animal
will be killed for this expedition or by this expedition) on a
fishing boat off the Gulf of Taranto, I was pulling in the nets
along with the bloody slop and a little 'verdesca'!
It was alive. I threw it back into the sea. I then went looking
for the parents! After 6 hours of waiting the mother turned up.
We say mother but it was an adult female and sexually mature.
